Auchan’s “Anti-gaspi” (anti-waste) shelves and Smartway solutions on the M6 news

In a context of high inflation, the French national programs 12:45 and 19:45 of October 20, 2022, presented respectively by Kareen Guiock and Xavier de Moulins on M6, propose a zoom on tips and solutions to avoid food waste, solutions that are beneficial for consumers as well as for supermarkets. Focus on the Auchan “Anti-gaspi“ (anti-waste) shelves in the Auchan St Herblain hypermarket!

Equipped with our intelligent solutions against food waste, the employees of the Auchan Saint-Herblain store save time in managing their unsold products.

Every morning, our solution, embedded on a mobile terminal, allows them to quickly detect products close to their expiration date and remove them from the shelves. This automated date control is “a revolutionary technology” that saves considerable time for the teams. “It allows us to be exhaustive in our date control and in a limited time” explains Briac Artaud, Food Trade Manager at Auchan Saint-Herblain.

The products are then labeled with a dynamic discount, which varies intelligently according to various parameters, including the day of the week and the type of product “to encourage the act of buying and therefore avoid food waste of all these products” says Christophe Menez, CRO & Co-founder of Smartway.

Gathered in a special “Anti-gaspi” (anti-waste) section, these food products close to their expiration date are sold at a lower price to avoid being thrown away. This is a strong environmental gesture for Auchan in France, which will save over 35 million food products over 12 months by digitizing its scrap in all its supermarkets and hypermarkets, and a real economic boost for consumers.
