TF1’s 8:00 p.m. program highlights artificial intelligence in the service of the fight against waste

On November 13, 2022, the first French TV channel TF1 broadcasted a report on artificial intelligence at the service of mass retailing, during the 8pm news in its weekend “Innovate” section. Focus on the shelves of Auchan Châtillon, where Smartway intelligent anti-waste solutions are used.

Every morning, the teams of Jean Treguer, Director of Auchan Châtillon, automatically detect food products close to their expiration date. These products are labeled with a discount in order to be sold at a lower price in the “Anti-gaspi” (anti-waste) area of the store.

How does Auchan Châtillon apply the prices on these short-dated products? It benefits from the help of Smartway’s artificial intelligence: it takes into account about forty simultaneous parameters: the day of the week, the type of product, the date, the family… to choose a discount rate that guarantees the most optimal resale for each product. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the retailer saves time on the management of unsold products, and will save more than 35 million products over 12 months!
