For Paris Retail Week, Smartway, which supports retailers in the fight against food waste, announced a partnership with SES-imagotag, a world leader in electronic smart labels and a specialist in IoT solutions for physical retailers.
Together, they have developed Smartdetection Flash Evo, a unique solution for detecting short dates in stores based on artificial intelligence and aimed at reducing food waste. No more checking products one by one and spending hours on the shelves to identify and remove soon-to-be-expired products; the flashing labels make them easy to find. In less than 4 minutes, more than 500 items can be date-controlled.
Creator of the Zero Waste shelves, Smartway developed the first Food Waste Management System (FWMS) to optimise food product flows at the end of shelf life. This unique artificial intelligence-based technology platform guides in-store teams in locating short-dated products in seconds, making the best possible decision to save each product, efficiently applying a secure discount and facilitating food donation. With Smartway, stores increase both short-date sales volume and donation volume, without sacrificing one for the other. The result is an 80% reduction in food waste and an average increase of 51% in the store’s net profit.
With a view to continuous innovation, Smartway has joined forces with SES-imagotag, a world leader in the digital transformation of physical retailers. Together, the two tech companies have developed a unique solution for detecting short dates in stores. Called Smartdetection Flash Evo, it uses Smartdetection software to list the products whose expiry date is approaching. These products are then located using SES-imagotag’s flashing smart labels. The teams working the shelves simply follow the flashing lights. The benefit is immediate; in France, most stores still carry out their short date control manually, but the Smartdetection Flash Evo solution, which is fully automated, saves a considerable amount of time while meeting the store’s freshness objectives.
This system has been deployed in a pilot phase in stores for several weeks, and its effectiveness is already being felt by the teams in managing short dates.
