Smarttasking: fresh, always done right.

A better-kept fresh department: fresher, selling more, wasting less. Smarttasking puts what to do, when to do it, and to what standard, right in every team member's hands: Smarttasking captures the experience of your best fresh expert and applies it in every department, even offline, every day, no matter who's on shift.

For your VP of Fresh / COO

A standard you can actually measure in your network

For your headquarters

Real-time execution visibility, store by store

For your budget

ROI proven in the field, not in a sales deck

Fresh execution changes with the team. The standard shouldn't.

A fresh department manager orders, receives deliveries, stocks the shelves, trains the team, and handles emergencies and absences. And when everything rests on one person, their expertise doesn't scale. Shrink and out-of-stocks are there to remind them.

In fresh, it shows immediately. A shelf gets judged by eye, hour after hour: how fresh it looks, how well it's kept, how well it's executed. And when the team is under pressure, that's often where standards start to slip. So you check. By walking the shelf. Over and over.

Fresh expertise has been built by Smartway since 2012. Present in 12 countries across 4 continents, alongside major retailers like Auchan, Carrefour, E.Leclerc, and Intermarché. Smarttasking joins the Smartway fresh suite, alongside Smartdetection, Smartorder, and Smartdecision.

Why Smarttasking

A task tells you what to do.
Smarttasking shows you how to do it right.

Field tools know how to assign tasks. But a task alone doesn't pass on fresh expertise.

Fresh optimization platforms know how to forecast and recommend orders from headquarters. But a good forecast doesn't build the shelf.

Smarttasking bridges the two: the right action is shown, then verified in real time.

Features

Prioritize. Execute. Measure.

Smarttasking is fresh execution, ready to use from day one and built to grow with your teams.
Turn on what you need, when you need it.

Icône Structure

Structure

A well-structured day, start to finish

Create your tasks, define the expected standard, organize the day around key moments, and give everyone their priorities. Teams check off tasks as they go, and managers stay in control in real time. Forget paper and WhatsApp.

Icône Expertise

Expertise

The best experts' know-how, built right in

Best practices from fresh experts are already built in: ready-to-use tasks, built-in standards, and, most importantly, a photo showing what a job well done looks like. Starting with the traditional fresh department, then rolling out progressively to other service counters.

Icône Intelligence

Intelligence

Data first. The field takes it from there.

Smarttasking determines the right tasks, in the right order, at the right time, based on what's actually happening in the store: sales, stock, freshness risk. Out of stock? A product to push? Rotation at risk? Smarttasking generates the right alerts and connects with Smartorder and Smartdetection.

Icône Roadmap

From shelf to action

We're building the next piece of Smarttasking: it will help teams spot execution gaps and act faster. In development. Not yet available.

Impact

Execute better. Run around less. More time on the floor.

When the day-to-day is better organized, teams spend less time figuring out what to do and checking that it's done, and more time on the shelf and with customers.

Field impact

Less follow-up. More time in the field.

−30% of manager time spent chasing tasks and checking they're done

A new team member can be up and running in under 2 hours and working at the right level from day one. Target: 90%+ daily usage.

Know-how impact

Teams change. The know-how stays.

+10 points on your customer freshness score

The same level of execution in every store, visible and verifiable. Because the shelf shouldn't depend on who trained the person who's there today.

Margin impact

Protect your margin where it's slipping away.

-10 to -20% shrink on your most exposed products

What we heard in the field

“Every time the team changes, product know-how gets lost.”

Fresh department manager · Field interview, independent store

“When I'm not there, standards slip.”

Store director · Field interview

“In the middle of summer, one of my assistant managers had restocked the turnip shelf, while we were out of stock on melon, organic bananas, and vine tomatoes.”

Process

Prioritize. Execute. Measure.

Fresh, at the right pace.

1 · Prioritize

The day breaks down into key moments

Prep, opening, midday, ordering, 4pm reopening, closing. For each key moment, a short list, prioritized based on who's on shift.

2 · Execute

On the shelf, the standard right in front of you

Every task shows the expected result in a photo, set by a fresh expert. Do it. Confirm it. Move to the next one. Offline, in the cold room just like in the backroom.

Vue manager Smarttasking : tâches validées et en attente par équipe et par personne

3 · Measure

See whether the standard is being kept

Managers and headquarters track execution in real time, store by store, team by team, person by person. Gaps become visible, coaching is based on facts, and execution rests on concrete evidence.

FAQ

Everything you need to know to roll out Smarttasking in your stores

What devices does the app run on?

On rugged handhelds or tablets, built mobile-first and offline-first: it keeps working even without a network connection, which matters in the cold room just as much as in the backroom.

Do we need to connect it to our systems?

It runs independently with your product data, your task templates, and your team directory. No IT project required: your first tasks are live in under an hour, and your full routine is up and running within a week. If you already use Smartorder or Smartdetection, their store signals also feed into the priority list.

Which departments are covered?

The traditional fresh department first, where our standards library is the most complete, then other service counters: bakery, butchery, deli, and cheese. You can start with a single department, in a single store.

Is this just another AI tool to trust blindly?

No. The standards come from fresh experts, ours or yours. AI helps prioritize the day and surface what matters. It never replaces your teams' judgment, and when it doesn't know, it says so.

Do we have to write all the tasks and standards ourselves?

No. You can create your own in the back office, use our standards library built with fresh experts, or combine both. Start from our library and adapt it to your freshness charter.

How is our teams' data handled?

Task validations and photos are used to guide execution and help teams build their skills, not to monitor individuals. Managers only see their own team, data is hosted in Europe and GDPR-compliant, and we adjust the settings to meet your works council's requirements before rollout.
